We celebrated 2023 in Worcestershire and shared an A to Z of our top news stories.

During December 2023, we worked our way through the alphabet and looked back at some of the success stories from that year that highlight the hard work of everyone at Worcestershire County Council.

A is for Anniversary

Did you know it is 25 years since we became Worcestershire County Council? We are kicking off our Worcestershire A-Z with A for Anniversary, taking a look all the way back to 1998.
B is for Business Support

This year we launched a multi-million-pound support package for businesses, in partnership with the local District Councils. 
C is for Children & Families

We are focused on improving outcomes for all children, young people and families in Worcestershire.
D is for Democracy

Every year 117 public meetings are scheduled to take place at Worcestershire County Council.
E is for Environment

The environment remains a priority for the county council and 2023 has seen continued work into preserving and protecting our environment for future generations.

This year Ofsted rated Worcestershire Children First Fostering services as 'Good'!
G is for Get Outside

Encouraging everyone to lead a healthy, active lifestyle supports the people in Worcestershire to live happy, prosperous and independent lives.

Each winter we have 36 gritting lorries and more than 50 drivers ready and waiting to be deployed when ice and snow hit.

We have a robust flood response in place for when flooding hits the county.

What a great year for our learning services team! We’re celebrating a successful 2023, after securing a fantastic 'Good' rating from OFSTED.

In Worcestershire, we are pretty good at making people feel connected.

2023 has been another busy year for major infrastructure projects in Worcestershire.

Worcestershire County Council has made a significant reduction in its own greenhouse gas emissions.

Worcestershire is a county filled with history, miles of beautiful countryside, traditional market towns and is known as the land that inspired J.R.R Tolkien's novels.

This year, a huge recycling landmark was reached in Worcestershire.

Investing in education is vital to provide our children and young people with the best start in life and 2023 continued investment within schools and other educational settings.

Alarms and sensors are just some examples of #AssistiveTechnology that can help transform the care sector.

Since our launch in Droitwich and Stourport Libraries last year, we've witnessed an incredible response with over 21,500 visits, 27,500 book issues, and 5,000 computer sessions during Libraries Unlocked hours.

V is for Volunteering

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has taken the time to volunteer this year to help make a difference to our communities.

Explore the Past is Worcestershire County Council's Archive & Archaeology Service.

And you will have no need for visiting ghosts, as our Archive & Archaeology Service can help you understand more than Worcestershire’s Christmas past and present!

Get Safe is the Worcestershire name for our multi-agency support and protection for children and young people at risk of Criminal Exploitation.

We’ll admit this one is a tenuous link, but there are more Zebra’s in Worcestershire than you might think!
